Submarine eruptions were reported in 1854 at a location SE of the southern tip of Taiwan (lower left). Eruptions were seen at two places when a ship passed the southern tip of Taiwan. The depth at this location is about 115 m. Lan YĆ¼ Island, about 130 km east of the southern tip of Taiwan, lies at the far right in this NASA Landsat image (with north to the top).
