Details for: Shiretoko-Iozan
Shiretoko-Iwo-zan, one of many Japanese "sulfur mountains," is seen here in late Spring from the Shiretoko-Goko (Shiretoko Five Lakes) on the west side of the volcano. Shiretoko-Iwo-zan, located at the NE tip of Hokkaido on the Shiretoko Peninsula, is noted for the extrusion of molten sulfur during eruptions in 1889 and 1936. Two large craters at the summit are breached to the NW.
